Vernal Equinox – That Means Spring!

March 20th 2104 is the day to celebrate the Vernal Equinox.  Huh!! What’s that? I hear you say!  Today is the officially the first day of spring. Ah!! The first day of Spring one of my favorite seasons due to the sheer fact it’s not too hot and it’s not too cold, it’s just right (excuse me as I drip into Goldilocks and the three bears alter ego) And best of all it a time of year to really to experience and look in ore at the wonders of nature as its freshen again.  It’s as thou everything has woken up from a dark cold winter.  The blooms on the trees start to appear, the mornings are a lot lighter, blue bells are growing and yep Marks and Spenser and amongst other supermarkets are selling daffodils like it’s going out of fashion and the pound shops bring out of storage the chocolate Easter eggs.

So once spring shows up, it’s time to start the spring cleaning, for me it’s not just in the home but an overall spring cleanse on one’s self.  This month I plan to change my devilish ways and eat clean food.  This means more healthy foods in my diet, fruit, vegetables, drinking more water blah blah blah!! I think you get the point here.  So what foods am I not going to put past my lips, it’s simple really  cutting out  foods that contain gluten, so no bread and dare I say it “cakes”  sigh’ 🙁 , no fizzy drinks and no fast foods etc.

The one’s self spring cleanse isn’t just about me eating better but becoming more organized at home and at work and also having a better beauty regimen. This will start with the use of better products for my skin and hair; if I can help it and my budget allows me to buy generally products that have few chemicals in them.  And for an added spring bonus, update my makeup and wardrobe.  Really thou, that list right there is a perfectly good excuse to go shopping and treat one’s self.

So why am doing a self-spring clean? Because I want my skin bright, my body tight, my mind focused and overall health on point. Lords knows I’m gonna have the odd slip up and a few sneaky doughnuts but I’m only human right! Mistakes are there to learn from

My question to you is what are you spring cleaning this season!

Small Town Dilemma – Working it – with wot I can get!!

Even in a small town, you have to strive to be “FLY”!! or be it the case to look current and decent.

For most of the talent and informative bloggers I have come across, followed and whom I truly admire, are generally from the big cities such as London etc. But in the little town where I live it doesn’t have that city vibe when it comes to retail therapy especially when it comes to skin care and cosmetic makeup. Whether the products are for the deepest brown skin tones to the lighter colour spectrum very fairer skin, truly you might as well forget it.

So finding the right foundation match can be few and far between…let me correct that by saying FAR!!!!!

So when the blogging lovelies do a product review for skincare, makeup and even natural afro hair products, it can leave me dishearten that most of the products I cannot find locally.  You see I’m the type of shopper who likes to use all of her sense as part of my shopping experience – before parting with my hard-earned cash. I like to see products live a direct to size it up!, touch the product, smell the product and finally hear the counter sales personnel recommendations thus to explain me the do’s and don’ts.

Hence the hunt for those beauty products that fit my skin type or even fashion finds that fits my own personal style, all boils down to my little town motto: “Working it – with wot I can get!!”.

Be it that either from the internet or from the small department stores on the High Street and small independent retailers or even if I’m lucky day trips out to the big city.

Hiya!!!

First let me start by saying “Welcome to SilK and Flavours!!” And as the cold U.K. winter is drawing to a close and the British summer is approaching and the spring cleaning season is over. I decided to start a blog to fill in my empty hours. The idea to start my own blog has been floating around my head for a few years, but I have been putting it off.  But now I have taken the leap to begin my blogging journey.  So Let the Journey Begin! xxx

About me – I’m a brown skin lovely from Bedfordshire with a healthy appetite for Jaffa cakes and a passion for hunting out unique and beautiful finds.
